I'm going to look this up. Untouchability is still a massive problem of course and the time has come for another Gandhi to really make it a national issue again. The rise of so called 'Dalit-lit' must be a good thing though

Surprisingly,Indian Caste system is such a disease which engulfs entire territory of India. It is a total killer for the one sixth population of india known as dalits which are reeling under its devastating effects.Even today in India,it is caste which rules over the minds of the people, more so in rural India.Under Indian Caste system,it is the birth which rules over the worth even today.

indian caste hatred is nothing but a worst form of aryan imperialism, which divided its own society to rule and enjoy the fruit of end labour by suppressing humanity through idealistic means, which can only be tackled through materialistic means people should have right to enjoy their labour either it is itellectual or manual, one can't be suppressed on the name of fake race and colur.

India has to get rid of the caste system if it is to become a first world developed country and become a global superpower. India has to find a way to ensure that all of its people have a chance to participate in its economy. The caste system is a form a racism and insularity.

I think a 2nd reformation of India is needed similar to the civil rights movement in the 1960's in the USA. The same kinds of anti-discrimnation and even affirmative action measures are needed to counter-weight and upset the status quo. It needs to "hurt" the privileged castes to continue to oppress the lower and out castes. This movement will need to be led by high caste ... brahmins ... similar to how white people needed to lead and give their power over to African Americans.

At the time of independence, I am sure there were at least 2 options:
1. Totally ignore the caste system in identifying a person (and use economic wherewithal & need)
2. Identify people by their caste and figure out which group to help most

Each option has its pitfalls...and the chosen one definitely has institutionalized the caste system beyond compare!

Wonder when there will be another opportunity for the country to redefine identity of its people (not as easy as changing ActiveDirectory schema, is it? (;-)).
